How to Make Red, White, and Blue Dyed T-Shirts

Make sure your t-shirts are pre-washed (to remove any sizing) and however damp.

Mix your dye according to the package directions: mix the dye with 8 tablespoons salt and two cups hot water, then add in enough hot water to fill the container. Nosotros just used large mixing bowls, so the dye was pretty concentrated.

For the dip-dyed t-shirt, nosotros let the very bottom of the shirt residue in the blue dye, and the very peak rest in the red dye, each in a glass mixing bowl, for about xx minutes.

This one we let sit in the dye for 45 minutes. The dye package said to allow the fabric sit down in the dye for 45 minutes, only we took the dip-dyed shirt out early on and so the dye wouldn't creep up through the unabridged shirt.

Subsequently we removed the shirts from the dye baths, nosotros simply rinsed the shirts with a hose until the water ran clear. Usually with tie dye, you lot are instructed to permit the dye sit on the shirt for at least 24 hours before you rinse it, but we got impatient to meet the design…

This dye is so vibrant, and the colors are awesome!
